As our frequent blog readers know, this Friday is going to be our first Checker Tournament at Red Hill General Store. We will begin at 6:00pm and hopefully conclude by 8:00pm.
But all this snow, and our upcoming tournament, has gotten us to thinking about things that we can enjoy inside while the bitter cold is biting at our toes when we venture out.
While we are on the subject of checkers boardgames are definitely something fun that we can enjoy with friends and family. And these offer a lot more human interaction than any video game can touch upon.
Also, reading to children, or to an elder family member who cannot see to read as well anymore. Stories are as old as time itself, and it lends a feeling of nostalgia to do this.
Coming up with new recipes or tweaking old ones. If you are stuck indoors, now is the perfect time to try something new and different, so break out the unique kitchen appliance you haven't used in awhile and try something new with them. You never know, that juicer you hadn't used since you bought it, might make its way up on your used daily appliances list.
So what are you doing while stuck inside this winter? We'd love to hear your ideas on staving off boredom.

Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire...
Brrrr... it has definitely been chilly lately here in the little town of Hillsville. An open fire sure sounds nice! And speaking of fire, hopefully those of you who have fireplaces and wood stoves are keeping their maintenance up. If you need any supplies for working on that, you might want to visit either our store in Hillsville, or Red Hill General Store's website, or our sister site Wood Stove Outlet.
Also, there are ONLY 5 days until Christmas! So if you need any last minute gifts our retail store is the way to go! We have prepackaged nuts and the perfect nutcrackers to go with them! Perfect gift for those hard to buy for folks! I know that and some of our delicious St. Dalfour jellies is what I've gotten for my grandfather. And don't forget to buy yourself a little gift while you are in Red Hill General Store.
| Doesn't that just look toasty? |
So to kids from 1 to 92, although its been said, many times, many ways, Red Hill wishes a very Merry Christmas to you! And Happy Holidays!

There's the many different deep fryers that Presto offers such as the Presto DualDaddy electric deep fryer above.
Also, Presto products are great at preparing breakfast, above is the Presto FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker which makes some of the most delicious waffles I've ever eaten.
And popcorn poppers by Presto! The one above is none other than the Orville Redenbachers Stirring Popper. This item is definitely going to be a Presto Demo Days this week! So make sure you stop by!

Hoping for snow.
This year we're hoping for a little bit of snow. Not enough to block the roads or impede traffic, but enough to play around in and act like we are five years old again. It is so much fun to go outside and have an old fashioned snow ball fight, snow forts and all. Dueling until someone gives up and retreats to the warmth of the house for a cup of hot chocolate, or as I prefer, hot tea*.
Or better yet, building a snowman. Complete with carrot nose. Just the thought of digging in the snow with my lined leather gloves gives me a tingle of that childhood excitement. Winter always brings out the excited little kid in me.
What were your favorite winter past times as a child?
*I've been on a The Republic of Tea kick lately, the Pomegranate Green Tea is especially nice.
