Summer/Fall Project: Smoke Detectors

Smoke detectors definitely need to be checked before the cooler season, there tends to be an increase in house fires during the cooler months. You want to be sure your smoke detectors are working so that you are warned if there is a fire starting in your home.

So what are the things you need to do to be sure your smoke detectors are working?

Change the batteries at least once a year.

Replace any smoke detector that is over 10 years old.

Test alarms monthly.

Clean according to the alarm's instruction manual. Cobwebs and dust can interfere with how well the alarm works.
