Cattle Prod Safety

When you are thinking of using a cattle prod on livestock, it is important to know how to safely use it. Always read the manufacturer's instructions that came with your prod and if you have any questions or doubts do not hesitate to call the manufacturer of the cattle prod. It is always better to have the answers you need so that you can confidently use a a cattle prod safely.

Prods are for use on stubborn animals, it is unnecessary to use a cattle prod on an already moving animal. 

You will want to use a low charge setting on smaller animals.
Never use a cattle prod on a wet animal. There is an increase in the shock intensity when the cattle are wet.
Place your prod's contact points on the rear flank or upper rear leg, press the power button then release. Do not hold the button down or you risk over shocking your animal. Avoid prodding near or on genital, anal, head, and udder areas of cattle.

Use the cattle prod sparingly. If the animal or you are becoming agitated take a break and step away from the situation until you and the animal have become calm. This could take 30 minutes or more for the animal to become relaxed.

Do not use a cattle prod on a human or any small animal or household pet.
